On 12 September of this year, the Varakļāni Municipality Election Commission and the Rēzekne Municipality Election Commission have approved the results of the election of the local government council on 11 September.
The information submitted to the Central Election Commission shows that a total of 1,512 voters, or 59.43% of the eligible voters of the municipality participated in the election of the Varakļāni municipality council, while 6,465 voters or 25,92% voters cast their votes in the election of the Rēzekne municipality council.
There were 2,544 voters registered for the elections of 11 September in the Varakļāni municipality and 24,946 voters in the Rēzekne municipality. 657 or 25,83% of the electorate used the opportunity to vote early in the Varakļāni municipality, and 2,312 or 9.27% of all voters voted early in the Rēzekne municipality. The turnout on the election day was 855 voters or 33.61% in the Varakļāni municipality, and 4,153 voters or 16.65% – in the Rēzekne municipality.
100 voters used the possibility to vote at their location in the Varakļāni municipality, and 234 voters – in the Rēzekne municipality.
According to the results compiled by the Varakakļāni Municipality Election Commission, three lists of candidates - “LATVIAN FARMERS UNION”, Political Party “Latvian Regional Alliance”, National Alliance “All for Latvia!” - “Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK”, and “Development of Latvia”. There will be 15 deputies working in the municipality council of Varakans.
In turn, six lists of deputy candidates entered Rezekne municipality council - National Alliance “All for Latvia!” - “For the Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK”, Political Party “Latvian Regional Alliance”, New Conservative Party, New UNITY, “Movement” For!”, LATGALE PARTY, “for Latvian Development”, “Harmony” social Democratic Party and Union of Greens and Farmers. There were 19 deputies to be elected to Rezekne municipality council.

For comparison, in the previous municipal elections in 2017, 40.54% of voters voted in the elections in the municipalities of Rezekne, while 51.98% of the voting rights in Varakļāni.
The Local Government Council Election Law provides that the results of the elections in the municipalities must be confirmed by the election commissions not later than within three days after the elections. Applicants for the list of candidates, as well as the candidates submitted, have the right to challenge the decision of both the polling station commission and the local government election commission of Rezekne municipality regarding the approval of the election results within three working days after the date of the taking thereof in the Central Election Commission. The Central Election Commission should consider the complaint and take the decision within three days.
According to the election law of the municipality council of Varakans and Rezekne municipality council, the first meeting of the newly elected council in Varakans municipality and Rezekne municipality is scheduled to take place on 1 October. The newly elected deputies shall be invited to the first meeting of the Council by the Chairman of the relevant local government election commission.
