The General Assembly and the 28th Conference of the Association of European election Administrators (ACEEEO) ‘Judicial protection of electoral rights and the transparency of elections’ took place from 24 to 26 September 2019 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The Chairperson of the CEC of Latvia Kristīne Bērziņa and the Secretary of the CEC Ritvars Eglājs participated these events.
The General Assembly approved the Executive Board of the Association for the next three years. The Central Election Commission of Latvia was re-elected as a member of the Executive Board, and it will be represented by the Chairperson Kristine Berzina. The honorary membership of the ACEEEO was granted to the former Chairman of the CEC of Latvia Arnis Cimdars.
The Executive Board of the ACEEEO is made up of seven representatives of Institutional Members from seven different States, as well of representatives of those two member-countries which are not members of the Executive Board, but are ready to organize a conference and/or a meeting of the General Assembly in the current year. Latvia has been represented in the Executive Board of the ACEEEO since 2000.
The 28th conference of the ACEEEO focused on issues related to the judicial protection of electoral rights and transparency. The possibility for parties, candidates and voters to resolve electoral disputes in court, as well as ensuring the transparency of electoral processes are a key prerequisite for promoting credibility of elections and election results.
In the frame of the conference Ritvars Eglājs, the Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Latvia provided an overview of organising of the European Parliament elections in Latvia this year.
The next General Assembly and the 29th Annual conference will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2020.
ACEEEO was founded in 1991 and is a non-governmental, party-independent organisation with the main aim of ensuring an impartial and independent forum of any national government for the exchange of information on elections and political processes between election organisers, experts and scientists, thereby promoting free, democratic and fair elections in the Member States of the association and the activities of the association in the region in the region.
The ACEEEO was founded in 1991 and it is a non-governmental and non-partisan organization with the primary goal to provide an objective forum, independent from any national government, for the exchange of information on elections and political processes between election officials, experts and scientists thereby promoting free, democratic and fair elections in the Member States and region of the Association’s activities.
Latvia has been represented in the ACEEEO since 1991.
