A total of 327,950 voters, or 34.01 percent of eligible voters participated in the municipal elections of 5 June according to information compiled by the Central Election Commission (CEC).
On election day, 5 June, 203,203 voters or 21.69 percent voted, while 118,752 or 12.31 percent of voters cast a ballot on early voting days – 31 May, 3 and 4 June.
6,818 voters, or 0.7% of eligible voters, used the opportunity to vote at their location.
964,339 citizens eligible to vote in the municipal elections were registered on voter lists, including voters in the Madona municipality, and the vote was held in 755 polling stations.
By comparison, 47.05% of voters had voted in previous municipal elections in 2017. At the same time, it should be noted that, unlike the previous elections, this year there was longer time for the early vote, as well as no early vote in the Madona municipality on 31 May.
Municipal elections were not held in the Varakļāni municipality and the Rēzekne municipality this time. Elections in these municipalities will take place on 11 September.
